The "P" Word

I created this website to share positive content, but last week was pricy, problematic, and particularly painful.

Feeling pooped, I decided to take a Sunday morning drive and passed an iconic, small white church with a steeple. What grabbed my attention, however, was a sign that announced, “Prayer Is Your Greatest Weapon.”

After snapping a shot of the sign, I made a quick stop at the local dollar store and noticed a wall plague that read, “Prayer is the Key.”

Hmm. Heading to a park for a hike, I then passed a much larger church with a sign stating, No Perfect People Allowed.” Curiosity got the best of me, and I took a detour and slipped into the dimly lit auditorium just as the singing ended. Then, a pastor wearing a polo shared that he was going to change up the order of his sermon because he felt a need to preach about PRAYER first.

At one point, he even blasted a 1990 song by rapper MC Hammer and started singing, “We got to pray just to make it today, that's word, we pray.” (I personally would have skipped the dance moves though. Lol.)

Pastor Andy, as he was called, also recruited his family to help with a visual illustration. They joined him on stage holding these signs, respectively: Strangers, Besties, Mom N Em, and God. He then posed this question: If you could only communicate with one of these, who would you choose?

His main point was that prayer is simply communicating with God, and this authentic connection is a two-way street that not only requires talking but also listening.

This whole prayer thing didn’t end at church. Later that day, an old friend texted a picture of her son getting baptized on the beach in another state. (That truly was an answer to prayer.)

But the best one came when this random man with happy hippy vibes walked up to me on a sidewalk and asked if I liked his t-shirt. It said: “Moses was the first person to download data to a tablet from a cloud.”

With a smile and a chuckle, I agreed. And that got me to thinking that you don’t need social media or a cell phone to communicate with God. Prayer recharges, and God is the ultimate charger.
